The Chicago Bears fan base has seen significant growth between Ben Johnson and Caleb Williams, as the chemistry between the two is reminiscent of elite duos like Bill Belichick and Tom Brady and Sean Payton and Drew Brees.
This season, the pair has led the Bears to an 11-4 record and clinched a playoff berth, with the team just one win away from taking the NFC North division crown. Johnson spoke with the media about the rapport he and Williams have been building, citing the mutual love and respect between them.
"We both have the same goals. We both care deeply about this team, we care deeply about this city, and I care deeply about his success as well. He understands that now at this point," Johnson said via 670 The Score's Chris Emma. "What I’ve grown to love about him, and I hope he would echo the same thing, I think we’re mentally very similar. We share a lot of the same competitive drive, and we think the same way in a lot of regards."
Williams and Johnson could be the next great QB-HC duo
There's been talk about Williams' accuracy issues as he is only completing 57.8% of his passes this season. Johnson has contributed those problems to the amount he is putting on Williams throughout the year as the young quarterback works through all the reads and calls he needs to make.
Despite that, Williams already has career-highs in touchdowns with 23 passing scores and three rushing scores. He has also thrown for 3,400 yards and has thrown only six interceptions on the season.
What has been most impressive about Williams' development is his improved decision-making. He has only taken 23 sacks compared to the 68 he had in 2024. Williams has been better about either throwing the football away or picking up a few yards with his legs.
All of that work in his development has been thanks to Johnson's work with Williams as he tries to get him to the same level Jared Goff played at when Johnson was the offensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions. Goff made similar strides, becoming more accurate and a better decision-maker as the last few years progressed.

The Bears look like a legitimate Super Bowl contender thanks to the work that Johnson and Williams have put in this season.
