Another day, another multiple injuries piling on top of each other during a Chicago Bears practice.
It's become a recurring theme for the Bears in 2026 to have multiple players get hurt in one practice. Well, it happened again at the team's final workout of the preseason in Week 0, as The Athletic's Dan Wiederer shared an update on what happened.
"In the suboptimal category of the Bears final padded practice of the preseason …
WR Rome Odunze left the field with a trainer in the first hour.
RB D’Andre Swift left in the final stages and appeared to be in significant discomfort as he went inside the shed beside Field 3."

For further context on these concerning injuries, The Chicago Tribune's Sean Hammond shared more about what he saw of Swift's injury.
"Swift exited toward the end of practice during a full team period. After carrying the ball on a first-and-10 from the offense’s own 1-yard line, Swift came off the field apparently holding at his midsection or core area."

Odunze dealt with a foot injury that kept him off the field for the last month of the 2026 regular season. He finished with 44 receptions for 661 yards and six touchdowns.
Swift is coming off a career season with the Bears, rushing for 1,087 yards and nine touchdowns. He added another 299 receiving yards and one touchdown.
This is obviously not the best time for these guys to get hurt. Luther Burden III and Kyle Monangai are working their way back from being injured for most of training camp.
It's too early to hit the panic button on the 2026 season, but we still need to ask more questions about how these injuries happen. Yes, it's football and players get hurt, but the Bears players seem to get hurt at a higher rate than most NFL teams.
The good news, at least, is that defensive end Austin Booker was back working out at practice after missing some time. That will help the Bears' defense and pass rush.

It's going to be a long Labor Day weekend for the Bears, as they now have to wait to see updates on their top two offensive weapons before their Week 1 game against the Carolina Panthers. The hope is that they aren't serious at all and still play in the contest.
