It appears as though the Chicago Bears are getting some much-needed help for the roster.

The Bears announced several moves, including activating two players, adding one new player, and adding someone to the IR. Here are the moves made.

Activated the following players: LB Keyshaun Elliott & DB Elijah Hicks
Signed the following player: LB Antonio Grier
Placed the following player on Reserve/Injured: LB Nephi Sewell

Elliott and Hicks will not be practicing yet, but the 21-day window is open for them to be on the field and officially activated for games. Sewell was carted off the field in the 27-9 preseason loss to the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 2. Grier finished up his 2026 season with the Louisville Kings of the United Football League, racking up 15 tackles, three pass breakups, and one interception.

Bears lose one player, but gain three more before preseason ends

Depth at linebacker looks better with Elliott back from injury and Grier playing now. Elliott is a big one as the team's fifth-round pick, but he still needs to prove himself. Grier becomes the second UFL linebacker to join the Bears, with Tony Fields II also battling for a roster spot.

Hicks is also a major player to return after everything that's been going on in the secondary with injuries. The Bears got Tyrique Stevenson practicing again, but Hicks gives the team depth at safety after key injuries like Coby Bryant have occurred.

This should help the Bears enter their preseason finale against the Tennessee Titans ready to rock and roll. There shouldn't be as many depth concerns as there were entering the week after the blowout loss to the Bengals.

While Hicks should be able to make the 53-man roster now that he's healthy, Elliott will be the big question. It feels like he should be on the team since they drafted him, but the Bears are getting production from other guys like Jack Sanborn and Ruben Hyppolitte II. The pressure will be on Elliott to get back on the field soon and prove he belongs on the roster.

This is a big week for the Bears, so it's good to see some of these key reserve players getting healthy at the right time. Now it's a matter of when they will be back on the field.
