The Chicago Bears' targeting veteran running back Nick Chubb has been the hottest rumor circling the team since the conclusion of the 2025 NFL Draft.

It seems that Chubb won't return to the Cleveland Browns after the Browns selected two running backs during the draft, and the Bears could be an ideal landing spot. With D'Andre Swift being the featured back on the outside, the Bears could turn to Chubb to be their running back in between the tackles. Essentially, picture Swift as the Bears' version of Jahmyr Gibbs, and Chubb as their version of David Montgomery.

Of course, there are comedic undertones to the Bears' being in the market for Montgomery since they were the team that originally drafted the current Detroit Lions' running back. While Chubb has been top of mind for Bears fans, one team insider has a different take.

In his latest mailbag for the Chicago Tribune, Brad Biggs pushes back against the idea of the Bears signing Chubb. Combining his age, 29, with the fact that his best days may be behind him, Chubb is a running back that Biggs believes may not be on the Bears' radar. Instead, makes the case that the Bears could be targeting J.K. Dobbins.

In a similar position to Chubb, Dobbins is not expected to return to his 2024 team after the Los Angeles Chargers selected Omarion Hampton during the opening round of the draft.

Nick Chubb may not be the Bears' option at running back

Another similarity to Chubb for Dobbins is that he made his way back in 2024 after suffering a knee injury that ended his 2023 season in Week 1. What would work in Dobbins' favor is that he is younger than Chubb, 26, and he had some encouraging signs last season, rushing for nearly 1,000 yards with an average of 4.6 yards per carry and 9 touchdowns. If the Bears are looking for a higher upside, Dobbins would seem to be the better option
