The good news is that the Bears' busy second round is finally over. The bad news is that they still don't have a running back.

With their third of four picks in on Friday night, the Bears finally threw Dennis Allen a bone and picked someone on the defensive side of the ball: Texas A&M's defensive lineman Shemar Turner. A three year starter for the Aggies, Turner made the All-SEC Freshman team his first year in College Station, and Second Team All-SEC his junior year.
Here's what NFL.com's scouting report has to say about Turner:
"Three-year starter with “tweener” measurables but excellent musculation and lean mass. Turner plays with unlimited activity and a heavy dose of violence. He has a quick first step and an explosive punch. He’s capable of holding the point against single blocks or working the gaps with foot quickness. His pressure rate is hurt by a lack of length but he’s a restless rusher who hunts blockers’ edges and will eventually leak through if the play extends. His athleticism and chase quickness will see him in or near the pile with some frequency as a future starter."
Shemar Turner is a nice pick, but don't the Bears need a running back?

The Bears could certainly use all the help they can get on the defensive line, so in that sense, Turner's a smart pick. He apparently has a little bit of a penalty problem, but that's nothing that a few team-sanctioned game check fines can't fix. If he plays with the same relentless motor that's all over his tape, Allen will find a role for him on that line.
Turner is not, notably enough, a running back. After basically everyone on Bears Twitter and in Chicago media expected them to take a running back early on Friday night, they instead went wide receiver, offensive lineman, and defensive lineman. This year's running back class is deep, but realistically their last chance to get one of the better-rated prospects will be with their last pick on Friday night (72).
