It's very Bears that apparently, as the league is just starting to rediscover how valuable really good running backs still are, they're looking to get rid of theirs.

That's the premise, at least, that Bleacher Report tries to float in their latest big list of very fun/wacky trade ideas that probably have no chance whatsoever of actually happening. Basically, the Bleacher Report Special. The fine folks at B/R decided that it had simply been too long since the Bears got made fun of on the internet, and wanted to remedy that. It's nice of them, really.

So, what'd they do? They had Ryan Poles move on from his biggest signing of the 2024 offseason after one (1) single season. If you bought a D'Andre Swift jersey last year, now's a good time to bail on this article.

Bears send D'Andre Swift to Raiders in latest Bleacher Report trade idea

"As the Detroit Lions' offensive coordinator, new Bears lead skipper Ben Johnson coached Swift, utilizing the versatile running back's skill set as a ball-carrier and receiver. However, Swift only played in Johnson's system for one season (2022), because Detroit traded him to the Philadelphia Eagles during the 2023 offseason. The Lions and Eagles swapped seventh-rounders, and Detroit also acquired a 2025 fourth-rounder in the deal. In Swift's lone year with Johnson, he logged far fewer rushing attempts (262-99) and touches (274-147) than Jamaal Williams. Last offseason, Chicago signed Swift to a three-year, $24 million contract, which includes $14 million in guaranteed money. Through the 2024 campaign, he averaged a career-low 3.8 yards per carry. Johnson may—again—approve a trade that would send Swift to another team. If so, the Raiders would be a logical fit."

Nothing about the details of this are wrong per se, but the spirit of it stinks. Swift's only 26, and it's not like the contract is that bad. If the Bears are able to figure out even a halfway decent plan at offensive line, I imagine Swift recaptures some of that Philly magic pretty quickly. I don't know if an additional Day 3 pick is worth trading away a guy who's proven to be a reliable NFL player after one mediocre year in a three year deal. But, Bleacher Report does. So now you know who to blame when Swift has a Pro Bowl season in Las Vegas next year.
