The Chicago Bears have proven to be an improved team after a 2-2 start under Ben Johnson, but it is hard for Caleb Williams and the offense to truly take the next step with the struggling D'Andre Swift at the sticks of what has been a wholly underwhelming running game.
If Ryan Poles wants to swing a trade for an immediate upgrade, one player who makes a ton of sense is New York Jets running back Breece Hall, especially after alarming comments following his 0-5 team's loss to the Dallas Cowboys.
Hall mentioned that he is starting to get older as he eyes a second contract, implying that he doesn't "have a lot of time left" to prove himself in the NFL. With the Jets hapless again and likely headed for a poor 2026 season, is there a chance that Hall forces his way out of town?
If Hall is able to wriggle free, the Bears should be at the front of the line for his services on the trade market.
Bears must consider Breece Hall trade after alarming comments on Jets
The only thing preventing the winless Jets, who traded away a third-round pick for Haason Reddick last year, from making this deal is the fact their offense might not be functional without him. The team is built to run the ball due to the lack of receiver talent, and with Braelon Allen hurt, it seems unwise to give Isaiah Davis 20 touches per game.
If the Jets waive the white flag and part with Hall, it's hard to find anyone who could be a more immediate upgrade over Swift. Hall, averaging over 5.3 yards per carry, won't cost a ton in a trade due to his impending free agency, but he is a lethal playmaker with great speed and a tremendous receiver out of the backfield despite his fumbles.
The Bears still have a worse offensive line than the Jets, but Hall is a proven playmaker as a runner and receiver who could have success in Chicago. Hall would be a tremendous candidate for a multi-year contract, as this fresh start might be what he needs to transform from a good running back to a great one.

Hall doesn't seem like he wants to stick around for Glenn's rehabilitation project. If he wants to move to a team making a more earnest push to win in 2025, the Bears might be able to free him from the offensive black hole that Jets football always seems to be.
