The Bears will be without one of their best offensive options when they take on the Bengals in Cincinnati in Week 9-- and without a backup at that same position.
Starting running back D'Andre Swift is inactive on Sunday due to a groin injury that kept him out of the entire week of practice. Backup running back Roschon Johnson is also inactive due to a back injury.
Bears will be without some key offensive players vs. Bengals
That paves the way for seventh-round draft pick Kyle Monangai to lead the way in the Bears' backfield for the first time in his young career. On Saturday, the team also elevated Brittain Brown from the practice squad to provide some depth at the position. Fans can expect wide receiver DJ Moore to carry the ball a handful of times, as well, to help lighten the load for Monangai.
In seven games this year, Swift has racked up 464 rushing yards and four touchdowns on 100 carries, giving him a respectable 4.6 ypc average. In addition, he's caught 18 passes for 192 yards and another score. His 656 total yards from scrimmage are the most among all Bears playmakers.
Monangai has been effective as a change of pace back for the Bears this year. He's carried the ball 42 times for 186 yards, suitable for a 4.4 ypc average. Monangai has one rushing touchdown, too, but hasn't been as involved in the passing game. He has just six catches for 61 yards.
The Bears will also be without rookie wide receiver Luther Burden, who suffered a concussion against the Ravens last week. Burden has made several big plays this year, but has not been a consistent threat in the offense. He has 13 catches for 171 yards and one score this year, but three of those 13 catches have been made 20+ yards down the field, per Pro Football Focus.
