Chicago Bears fans might be quick to beg for Matt Eberflus to return as the team's head coach after Sunday's disaster against the Detroit Lions. New Bears head coach Ben Johnson managed to accomplish something that the former head coach did not do when he was leading the franchise.

Back in 2022, the Bears faced the Dallas Cowboys and had an awful defensive performance that led to the team allowing 49 points, the most under Eberflus in his three years in Chicago. Johnson actually managed to top him in this category.

On Sunday, the Bears allowed 52 points against the Lions. This was the first time the Bears allowed over 50 points in a game since 2014, when they played the Green Bay Packers and allowed 55 points.

The Bears' defense was truly bad in every way possible

It was an overall bad day for the defense, which seems odd since that was the strength to this team in training camp. Bears defensive coordinator Dennis Allen was able to weather all the injuries in the secondary and still put up strong performances.

Since the regular season began, it has not been as memorable for Allen's unit. Despite allowing under 300 yards in the 27-24 loss to the Minnesota Vikings in Week 1, they allowed 21 fourth quarter points that cost them the game.

During the Lions game, they allowed over 500 yards and 52 points. They lost T.J. Edwards and Jaylon Johnson to injuries, which only made things worse for the Bears.

Chicago has a lot of soul-searching to do in the upcoming week after what was one of the most embarrassing losses in years for the franchise. All eyes are on Johnson and how he can get his team to respond.
