Last week, most of the projected starters for the Chicago Bears sat out of the 24-24 tie against the Miami Dolphins in Week 1 of the preseason. This week, Bears head coach Ben Johnson didn't make everyone wait until the end of the week to share his unsurprising news.

During his press conference on Wednesday, Johnson told the media the starters would be playing in Sunday's preseason matchup against the Buffalo Bills. It's not known how many drives or snaps they will be in for, but all of this was already designed from the beginning by Johnson to get his quarterback, Caleb Williams, and the rest of the players up to speed.

"Our starters are going to play. Everyone is going to play."

"Last week, really all through camp, I've been pretty consistent with the thought of reps, reps, reps are the most important thing to get him up to speed and by the plan we had a week ago, we were able to get him probably somewhat between 80 to 100 more reps than we would have been able to had he played the game. This week, it's a different schedule. different length of time, in terms of in between games and all that, so our plan right now is the guys that sat out last week, they will be playing this week."

Johnson makes the right call to bring in all the starters

This was a move that was both expected and necessary. The offense, in particular, has had a roller coaster of a ride throughout training camp, with the first week struggles of pre-snap actions and Williams not being in sync with his receivers.

Over the last two weeks, it has improved, but it has been inconsistent at best. There have been flashes of Williams throwing some beautiful passes, and then more reports of the quarterback and receiver not being on the same page.

Many in the media have been concerned that the reason Johnson held out most of the starters, including Williams, last week was because they were not ready to be on the field. It has not seemed like the case as Johnson has been consistent on his plan with rep counts with players on the team.

Sunday will be the first time that fans and media can get their first glimpses into what the offense will look like in Chicago. Aside from that, it's a chance to see how great the defense can be after the raving reviews from training camp.
