The Chicago Bears are wasting no time in responding to the bombshell report that Caleb Williams did not want to be draft by the Bears prior to the 2024 NFL Draft.

Before we get to Ben Johnson dropping the people's elbow from the top rope, it's important to note that revelations from Williams are coming from the months of January and February of last year. Meaning, Williams likely doesn't have the same feelings. After all, Williams, in the end, wanted to play for the Bears and change the course of the franchise's history.

What will be different for Williams moving forward with the Bears is that he won't be on the journey by himself. After being left in control of his own development, thanks to the incompetencies of Matt Eberflus and Shane Waldron, Williams now has Ben Johnson by his side.

Johnson is already making sure Williams is not dealing with this adversity by himself. Speaking to Colin Cowherd on Thursday, Johnson was quick to support his quarterback.

“You talk about fears. I don’t see it quite the same way. I see it as, what a great opportunity we have to do something that really has never been done. There hasn’t been a 4,000-yard passer here in this franchise. I think Caleb’s going to be the first one. And one of many years, many seasons to come where he’s able to accomplish that feat. I see a chance for greatness here for him, and he feels the same way. I don’t know what’s gone on prior to him joining the organization, but he’s very proud to be a Chicago Bear," Johnson told Cowherd.

Ben Johnson is already setting the record straight with Caleb Williams

The reason why Johnson is making $14MM per season for the next 6 years is for that very response. Johnson, as a head coach, is here to prop Williams up as the Bears' franchise quarterback. The Bears have never had a head coach like that in the history of their organization. With Johnson as his head coach, Williams is no longer being abandoned by the very organization that drafted him. If anything, that should have Bears fans confident in the direction moving forward.
