After the Chicago Bears' offense was finally hitting their stride in training camp, it seems as though they forgot everything they had just done well and went back to first week issues.
ESPN Bears beat reporter Courtney Cronin chronicled their Sunday workout, which took place in front of 23,000 fans at Soldier Field during the Family Fest practice. What Bears fans got to witness was multiple mistakes, including delay of game penalties, and a safety being taken in the end zone, which the new head coach Ben Johnson called "inexcusable."
A frustrated Johnson had the difficult task of explaining what is going on with the offense and what the team will have to do about it.
"It's something we're going to have to address for sure," Johnson said via ESPN. "It showed up more today than it has in practice. This was more like a real game and if it continues like that, we're not going to win many games."
"Execution of the play wasn't what we wanted to be," Johnson said about the safety taken. "It's a credit to the defense -- they came out and they kicked the offense's rear in that. So that's what showed up to me -- they wanted it a little bit more."
What has to change with the offense in Chicago?
The Bears have regressed after all that hard work of getting things on track with a few solid offenses in the last few days. Quarterback Caleb Williams was getting back on track, and his receivers, Rome Odunze, DJ Moore, and Luther Burden III, were making great plays.
Chicago's offense can't seem to get out of its own way to improve. It was the same issues from the first week of training camp with pre-snap issues, lining up correctly, and Williams struggled.
It's okay to have issues early in training camp, but if mistakes are being made for two weeks in a row, there is likely a breakdown somewhere. Whether that falls on the offense or Ben Johnson, all fingers should be pointed towards everyone within the organization.

The Bears have made it to game week so there is still a few days before Sunday's matchup against the Miami Dolphins to get back on track. It's starting to become a big worrisome that the reports of the struggles offensively continue to happen.
