At the exact moment the Chicago Bears selected tight end Colston Loveland 10th overall in the 2025 NFL Draft, he was always to be heavily watched by the fan base after the team passed on Tyler Warren.

It has been far from a perfect start to the 2025 season for Loveland, as he has not been much of a factor on offense. This season, he has caught just eight passes for 78 yards in five games.

What fans might not expect is that Loveland arguably had the best game of his career in the Bears' 26-14 win over the New Orleans Saints. He had a career-high three receptions for a second-best 24 yards in the victory. Loveland also made some nice blocks that stood out in the game, piquing everyone's attention.

While these are not the highlight plays Bears fans were expecting, they are the ones that should be called out, as they show his unselfish play on the field. It has certainly gotten the attention of his coaching staff.

Loveland is starting to pick it up and get comfortable in the Bears' offense

Bears head coach Ben Johnson spoke with the media, sharing his thoughts on how Loveland has played this season. Johnson admitted that he was a bit disappointed in the numbers, but is still happy to see what the rookie tight end is doing.

“I’m pleased with how Colston Loveland is playing, and I know the production, call it six games into it, isn't what any of us maybe had looked for from a numbers perspective, but he’s impacting games in a very positive fashion, and he’s a reason why our offense is going to continue to get better.”

Loveland might be seeing more playing time against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 8, as Cole Kmet missed practice with a back injury he suffered in the Saints game. It will open the door for Loveland to get more targets and playing time on the field, potentially.

There is still plenty of time in the season for Loveland to prove that they can remove that "bust" tag that is attached to his name. He's starting to make some nice plays and is bound to have a breakout performance soon.
