Chicago Bears fans can admit that they are not happy with where rookie Colston Loveland is when it comes to his standing within the offense.

However, while the top-ten pick has not set the world on fire so far this season, he does give little glimpses of what he can be throughout the game, and those moments have been helpful. This time, it was a strong block in the Bears' 26-14 win over the New Orleans Saints that became highlight-reel worthy.

“It felt good for sure," Loveland said via 247Sports' Zack Pearson after the game. "That’s something I’m continuing to try and get better at. But in the run game especially. Finishing and not falling off blocks. So it felt good to finally get one on the ground.”

Chicago Bears are seeing progress with Colston Loveland

It is good to hear Loveland talking about how much work he is putting into his blocking. Before the 2025 NFL Draft, the talk was that Tyler Warren was coming into as a more physical blocker, but Loveland had the potential to be the better blocker of the two.

It has mostly played out that way in both the pass and blocking game. Warren has come out of the gates screaming and is already looking like one of the better tight ends in the NFL. His ability to help as a blocker and pass catcher has Bears fans frustrated.

However, the Bears drafted Loveland over Warren because they did not lean into the one-year impact. They see a higher ceiling down the line, even if Loveland is not ready-made.

It is moments like this that can make you buy into what the coaches are telling us. The Bears have Cole Kmet this year, and they were always going to take things slow with Loveland.

So, it is not shocking to see that he is not producing. However, seeing that he is improving in his blocking shows that the Bears are putting the time with him as a backup to good use.

They are refining his all-around game so that when he does surpass Kmet, there will not be questions, issues or missed assignments.

It is not all coming together yet, but rookie contracts are four years for a reason and Loveland was drafted so high that he gets a potential fifh year. Do not count Loveland out yet, and continue to look for the small building blocks, because they are showing what Loveland can flash soon.
