Ben Johnson opened up about Bears' WRs (but sent a subtle warning shot to them)

They got it all.

There are a lot of positions within the Chicago Bears to monitor in the 2026 season, but one is more fascinating than the other.

At wide receiver, the Bears seem to have some position battles at training camp, aside from Rome Odunze and Luther Burden III as the starters. Bears head coach Ben Johnson discussed the wide receiver room and what to expect from it.

"It’s a group that really complements each other," Johnson said via The Score's Chris Emma. "We’ve got a good mix of long speed, quickness, guys that may be better suited inside the numbers, a few guys that are going to be able to thrive outside the numbers. So, I like the mix and the makeup. We’re always looking to add competition."

Odunze and Burden have a good blend of speed and reliable hands, making them a great one-two punch at the position. The concern is how the Bears will handle the room outside of that.

Kalif Raymond and Jahdae Walker are going to battle it out for the WR3 job as the two will play in the slot. Bears' 2026 third-round pick Zavion Thomas doesn't appear to get as many looks as the team brass has already said he will be more of a returner for his rookie campaign.

Many have called for the Bears to look at adding another veteran wide receiver to the mix as WR3. Raymond has been more of a special teams returner over his career, and Walker is more unproven, having only really played the last month of the 2025 season.

Without DJ Moore on the roster anymore, the wide receiver room is not what it used to be, leaving some questions. If someone like Walker, Raymond, or Thomas can step up, it could change the whole storyline, but Johnson made it known they are looking to add more, so they shouldn't get too comfortable.
