Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson came to the Windy City to disrupt the culture of the franchise to get it back to the winning ways fans deserved.

One way Johnson did that was by bringing back the physicality that Chicago loved seeing with the Bears teams of the 1980s under Mike Ditka. He and Bears general manager Ryan Poles found a player who fit that style of play to the T with rookie seventh-round pick running back Kyle Monangai.

The former Rutgers running back showcased his physical style of running the ball right away to Bears fans in his first preseason game against the Miami Dolphins, gaining 30 yards on six carries. It would be the only time fans would see him in the preseason, as he got hurt and missed most of camp with a hamstring injury.

All signs are pointing towards Monangai being ready to go in the first regular season matchup against the Minnesota Vikings on Monday night. He is much needed with the position being plagued with injury, but more importantly, Johnson wants him on the field, and he has shown that.

What Johnson said about Monangai that will get Bears fans excited

While speaking with the media on Saturday, Johnson spoke highly of his Day 3 draft pick, praising Monangai in more ways than one.

"I trust that guy at this point. Which is a big thing to say for a young guy like that. He tends to do everything right."

That trust is going to be needed since Johnson is only three preseason games into his first tenure as head coach. The fact that he already backs a rookie like that is a good sign for Monangai.

On the Bears' unofficial depth chart, Monangai was originally going to be the third string with D'Andre Swift the starter and Roschon Johnson the backup. Due to Johnson's foot injury, which will most likely keep him out of the Vikings game, Monangai appears to be on his way to moving up on the depth chart to backup.

Monangai is a perfect complement to Swift in the backfield. The Bears have Swift, who is faster and versatile in the passing game. Monangai is a power back who can be used to run right up the middle of the line.

Ben Johnson's words carry significant weight in Chicago, so if he says he trusts Monangai, that gives fans a glimpse into what the running game is going to look like for the Bears against the Vikings.
