The hope from Chicago Bears fans was that when head coach Ben Johnson had his press conference, he would give a good update on the running back injury situation. That didn't happen. Not at all.
Johnson was first asked about an update on Roschon Johnson, Kyle Monangai and Travis Homer, who are all out with injuries. Ben Johnson kept the answer simple.
"There is some question mark on when all these guys will be fully healthy again," Johnson said via ESPN's Courtney Cronin.
The follow up question was regarding how it would impact the decisions being made to the 53-man roster/
"We're working through that. We'll always be looking if there's guys out there that we can help upgrade that room ... I think the injury part of it, that is the most troubling and concerning part right now is just making sure we have enough depth so that we have a full stable of guys going forward but I have full confidence that Week 1 and really for the whole season we're going to be just fine there."

How does that affect what the Bears might do to add at RB as they set the initial 53?

No timetable for Bears running backs returning should be concerning to fans
Bears fans were hoping for a clearer answer, but it appears there is no timetable for when any of the backs will return. Roschon Johnson has a foot injury that has kept him out, Monangai also has an injury, which his a soft tissue injury, and Homer is dealing with a calf injury.
The Bears have already had to do some significant work on the depth at running back. They lost Deion Hankins for the season after his knee injury. That opened the door for Brittian Brown to be signed and perform well with 100 yards and one touchdown in two preseason games.
Brown and D'Andre Swift were the only healthy running backs who took the field at practice on Monday. Depending on how the final roster shapes out, it could be the case for a bit.

There are alternative options in free agency with hundreds of players getting cut, but the Bears are hoping to ride it out and get at least one of the three injured players back for Week 1.
