Ben Johnson says what Bears fans wanted to hear about their skill players

The Chicago Bears have been able to use a plethora of skill players so far this season.

While it may confuse fantasy football managers when someone like Rome Odunze has over 10 targets in two games but then catches zero of three targets in another, head coach Ben Johnson said that this is the way he wants it to be.

Ben Johnson challenges his skill players

"I've got a lot of confidence in all the runners and the pass catchers. Hopefully, they feel a little competition amongst themselves, saying you've got to get the ball in my hands."

His offense is not built on feeding a specific player or role the football. His offense is about getting players open and having the best players demand the football by being the most open, or the best with the ball in their hands.

If the matchup calls for Olamide Zaccheus, he knows he can rely on him. At the same time, this is also about the depth of the roster. The Bears have three rookies who have had moments, but not quite emerged. He wants all three of them to keep that hunger.

Luther Burden has been banged up, but when he touches the football, it is electric. His presence makes Zacchaeus perform, knowing that if he does not, the rookie is coming for him. That may have helped spark his strong performance.

Cole Kmet missed time, and it opened the door for Colston Loveland, who is starting to emerge. Kmet has to be feeling the heat now and looking to play his best.

Kyle Monangai just dominated the Cincinnati Bengals. The Bengals' run defense is awful, but so is the New York Giants. If D’Andre Swift cannot get on the field this week, he is going to be feeling the heat.

Monangai, Burden, and Loveland all came as Johnson draft picks, so you know the veterans on the roster are feeling the pressure to perform. The added competition could lead to Swift, Kmet, and Zaccheaus continuing to play well on the Bears' playoff stretch.
