One of the biggest moves and risks of the offseason was the Chicago Bears sending DJ Moore to the Buffalo Bills in a trade.
The Bears ended up getting a second-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft as part of the deal, so it certainly felt, at the time, that while it was a risk, general manager Ryan Poles made a good decision. A new bold prediction from Sports Illustrated's Conor Orr shared that Moore will actually not even lead the Bills in receiving.
"After Buffalo traded a second-round pick for the former Bears and Panthers standout and guaranteed Moore future dollars, making another attempt at solving the wide receiver room without overcommitting draft capital, Josh Allen will continue to lean on Khalil Shakir for his most critical throws. Moore, 29, will have fewer than 70 receptions in 2026 as the Bills continue to lean more heavily on a run-first offense built around Allen."
Bears would be massive winners from DJ Moore trade if that bold prediction came to be true
Bears fans know all too well about Moore's disappointing performance and not playing up to the standard of his contract. Over the last two years, he has seen his numbers decline from the 1,300-yard season he posted in his first season with the Bears in 2023. His numbers dipped to just under 1,000 yards in 2024 and were under 700 in 2025.
Moore was a great leader in the Bears' locker room last year and repeatedly showed his toughness by playing banged up and injured. The problem was that the Bears gave him a massive contract, and he was not living up to it, as he saw himself outplayed at times by rookies Colston Loveland and Luther Burden III.
Poles was justified in trading Moore away, as the team saved over $15 million against the cap and already has young talent in place. Between Loveland, Burden, and Rome Odunze, the Bears have plenty of weapons in the passing game, so losing Moore is not the end of the world.

Bears fans wouldn't be surprised to see Moore regress even more this upcoming season for the Bills, which would make them look good for making the trade at the right time.
