The Chicago Bears might be looking for any options that could help improve their roster and get them to the Super Bowl in 2025.

One option for them just became available as the Dallas Cowboys stunned the NFL world with the release of cornerback Trevon Diggs. There were stories behind what had led to Diggs' surprising release, including him wanting to stay in Washington after the Christmas Day game but getting denied by the team as part of it, but it isn't 100% clear.

This has started with every playoff team considering whether they should go after him, including the Bears fan base and media. Even players on the team are making their feelings known, with Bears cornerback C.J. Gardner-Johnson reacting to whether the team should consider picking him up.

CJGJ just gave his stamp of approval for Bears to go all out for Trevon Diggs

Diggs was a star in the NFL in his first three seasons, with two Pro Bowl selections and 17 interceptions, including two returned for touchdowns. That includes a 2021 season where Diggs led the NFL with 11 interceptions and was selected to the First-Team All-Pro.

Since then, though, it has not gone smoothly for Diggs, with injuries keeping him off the field, as he has missed 30 games in the last three seasons. This season, he's played in just eight games and has failed to record an interception or even a pass deflection.

Chicago's secondary could use some help, as they have struggled against the pass in 2025. The Bears are 21st in the NFL against the pass, allowing 222 yards per game.

Bringing in Diggs would be good depth for the unit and wouldn't be as much of a risk as some would think, since he would only be playing a few games. He does have prior experience with Bears assistant coach Al Harris from their time in Dallas, so that would be a massive advantage in getting Diggs up to speed quickly.

The question would be whether Diggs would actually start over guys like Nahshon Wright and Tyrique Stevenson, who have been all season. Wright has been great with turnovers, and Stevenson has had some nice games this season, but both are inconsistent in one-on-one coverage, and Diggs might be able to help alleviate those issues for Chicago.

It would be crazy for Ben Johnson and Ryan Poles not at least consider bringing in Diggs as a rental and see how it goes before potentially committing to him long term.
