Caleb Williams and the other reasons why Bears fans should be thankful this season
The Chicago Bears are 4-7 and dead last in the NFC North. They have yet to win a game since returning from their Bye Week this season when they had a record of 4-2.
Still, in the spirit of Thanksgiving, there is always a time to step back and think about the good that is coming from this year. What do Bears fans have to be thankful for?
Caleb Williams is progressing
The last two weeks have been massive for Caleb Williams.
Williams started the season slow but had a hot two-game run in weeks five and six. Still, those games were against Jacksonville and Carolina, two of the worst defenses in the NFL. When he came back down to earth against Washington, Arizona, and New England, it was easy to get concerned.
However, Williams not only played well in the last two weeks, he did it against two good defenses. The Packers turn you over more than anyone and he protected the ball. The Vikings made any quarterback question himself and Williams stayed confident.
The string is running out on Matt Eberflus
Fans are ready for Matt Eberflus to be fired and it is blurring their vision of what to be happy about. The reality is that the five-game losing streak is annoying, but it exposed Eberflus.
It is not fun to root for someone to get fired, but there is optimism in knowing that the Bears will have a better head coach and they will have their future quarterback on the roster,
Thomas Brown has potential head coach qualities
Thomas Brown replacing Shane Waldron has been the catalyst for Williams' ascension over the last two weeks.
The possibility remains that Eberflus could be fired with a loss to the Detroit Lions on Thursday, giving Brown a chance to finish the season as the Bears' interim head coach.
Braxton Jones and Darnell Wright are thriving
Fans are down on the offensive line, and while the interior needs help, Braxton Jones and Darnell Wright have graded out among the best offensive tackles in the league this season.
There was a noticeable difference when the Bears were without Jones and Wright this season, a sign of the value they bring to the starting unit.
Jaylon Johnson is just as good as last year
The interception numbers are not as high, but the yards allowed and the splits as teams attack the player opposite of him are real. Jaylon Johnson got paid after one big year and no one is going to regret that.
