Caleb Williams is only entering his second year in the league, and the Chicago Bears quarterback is already under a ton of pressure. The football world is ready to see him produce right now, and any time it looks like he’s not ready to do that, there are a ton of voices ready to point it out. That has been on full display after Williams’ performance in Chicago’s final preseason game of the year.
While he ultimately finished the game 11-of-15 for 113 yards and a touchdown, while adding 18 rushing yards, he had a few moments, like a fumbled handoff, that has his critics out and vocal. One of those critics is former NFL player turned analyst Sam Acho.
In an appearance on SportsCenter, Acho argued that Williams played a very sloppy game, pointing to the fumble, a sack taken, and a couple of missed throws. The former linebacker, who spent four seasons with the Bears, didn’t stop there. He went on to criticize Williams’ uniform choice to have his socks pulled down, arguing that this shows the young quarterback isn’t even taking care of the little things, and as a result, isn’t being the best leader for the Bears.

Of course, some fans weren’t happy with this assessment, referring to Acho as a clown and criticizing him for harping on something as simple as socks. While the analyst did admit the sock issue wasn’t a significant concern, he believes it tells a larger story.

Ultimately, this is what Williams and the Bears will have to go through until they change the narrative on the field. Playing well and winning games makes everyone overlook just about anything. When that’s not happening, critics will nitpick every little thing they can. Williams is seeing that first hand right now.
