After the Chicago Bears' latest win came over the New York Giants, it wasn't hard to find ways to critique the team. That might sound anticlimactic to some, but if we're being realistic about this team, the Bears do have some glaring things to clean up.
Don't take it from me, either. Immediately after the Bears' win this past Sunday, locker room video caught exactly what quarterback Caleb Williams said to head coach Ben Johnson. His first words to his coach, in fact, after the win, were as follows:
"We gotta get better."
If that doesn't speak volumes, I don't know what will. The Bears just saw their quarterback execute his fourth game-winning drive of the season and, after just a few moments of celebrating, Williams' immediate thought was on how this team can get better.
The Bears' future can be frighteningly-good if Caleb Williams and Ben Johnson do what needs to be done
Every fan sees it. While it's fun to celebrate another dramatic win, it's also easy to see that this team needs to start scoring points earlier, keep their foot on the gas and not have to make it out by the skin of their teeth in the fourth quarter.
That said, the Ben Johnson effect is real. It's so real that it's alarming, in fact.
Through Week 10, the Bears lead the NFL in explosive offensive plays with 78.
If that isn't shocking enough, Chicago's offense ranks 3rd in yards per game, 7th in points per game and 2nd in rushing.
Hold on ... weren't we told that the Bears were not going to have a rushing attack this year behind D'Andre Swift and rookie seventh-round pick Kyle Monangai? Wasn't this supposed to be a candidate who goes out and gets a running back at the trade deadline?
Not so fast. Johnson's finger prints are all over this offense, and the Bears are running the ball exceptionally. Even Williams has gotten in on the action and is up to 246 yards on the ground this season.
If Chicago figures out how to convert all of these big plays and extensive drives into more touchdowns, rather than settling for field goal attempts or turning it over on downs, then the rest of the NFC better watch out.
The Bears are, indeed, a very flawed football team. But, the fact that they rank where they do in terms of offensive yardage is flat-out impressive.

Williams is right. They do need to get better. And, when they do, that's going to be quite the sight to see.
