Even with some early struggles for the Chicago Bears' offense at training camp, things seem to be heading in the right direction for the unit.
There are far fewer mistakes than there were last year, as it is clear everyone is more on the same page than in 2025. A big reason for everyone staying on course for what needs to happen on offense? Quarterback Caleb Williams.
During this camp, Williams is in much better mental shape to run this offense, as he knows much more of Bears head coach Ben Johnson's scheme than he did last year, when he was getting yelled at and kicked out of huddles. Williams' practice performance on Day 7 of training camp shows that to be the case.
Bears are starting to see Caleb Williams in a whole new light in 2026
ESPN Bears reporter Courtney Cronin shared how the team's seventh practice went. While it was not like the other padded practices during the week, Williams' performance was notable.
"Practice No. 7 was a shorty today. Started at 8:30 done by 10. Bears were in shells and thew few team periods they did were all half-speed. Caleb Williams went 9-for-10 in 7-on-7 with the best catch of the day coming from Kaden Davis."
Last season and during the offseason, Williams was heavily criticized for being inaccurate with the football, with a 58% completion percentage and struggles in that part of his game. No one could really pinpoint the problem, but a lot of it had to do with trying to make a play and not being able to when he got out of the pocket.
Training camp shows that Williams has full control of the offense, and his abilities are getting better. Everyone knew that he had the arm talent to make every throw under the sun. Now it was about putting it all together.
During the regular season last year, Johnson mentioned that part of Williams' accuracy problems was that he was trying to learn the offense. In the offseason, Bears wide receiver coach Antwaan Randle El put the blame on the wide receivers dropping what he counted as 43 catchable balls.
By all accounts, if those 43 completions were added to Williams' numbers, his completion percentage would have been 65.6% for 2025. It feels as though things are not as bad as some feel regarding Williams' accuracy problems.

Training camp is really just exposing what Bears fans have known all along: Williams is a darn good quarterback with so much potential. It feels like, at the rate he is going, an MVP is not out of the realm of possibility for Williams in 2026 and beyond.
