Rome Odunze and Caleb Williams joined the Chicago Bears organization just nine picks a part from each other.
The Bears selected Williams at No. 1 overall and then Odunze with the 10th pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. The pair experienced their ups and downs throughout a rookie season that featured their head coach and offensive coordinator being fired.
But better days are ahead now that Ben Johnson has taken the reins as the team's head coach and play caller. That's the hope at least. But until regular season games are played, everything is up in the air, and that has evoked plenty of opinions on what the 2025 Chicago Bears will be under Johnson.
The media continues to go after Caleb Williams for reasons unknown to any Bears fan
A lot of discussion has circulated about Williams, and the discussions have been polarizing to say the least. Everything from how Williams wears his socks to missing throws during a net video has been discussed, painting the second-year quarterback in a negative light.
Odunze was asked on Tuesday afternoon why he believes Williams gets so much hate.
"Shoot, I don't know, man," Odunze said. "Ya'll are going to have to tell me. Ya'll write the stories on that boy, so ya'll put all the stuff out there for everybody to read. I don't know. I mean, it comes with the No. 1 pick I would say, you know. You know and he's himself at the end of the day. When you're the No. 1 pick and you're yourself, you are going to get a lot of hate. Honestly, it's sad to say that but that is just kind of how the light that we were put in. Um, you know, in Chicago sports, they're very wanting success and having it now and they expect a lot from all their sports teams, so we're in that light and you take the good with the bad.
So he gets a lot of hate for those reasons, but he comes in, he works hard every single day, and he's himself, so I appreciate him for that and I think we're gearing up for a good year."
As expected, the criticism, hate if you will, surfaced on Wednesday afternoon. FOX Sports' Jason McIntyre sounded off on Williams on "The Herd with Colin Cowherd" because he hasn't heard "a lot of praise from Ben Johnson" when speaking about Williams, and therefore, the Bears' head coach "doesn't seem happy."

Apparently, McIntyre missed the final question in Johnson's press conference on Tuesday when the Bears' head coach was asked about the quarterback and how he operates in two-minute situations.
"I think that’s just where he feels most natural," Johnson said. "I think that’s over the course of high school, college and now pros. That’s probably where he’s accumulated the most number of snaps and so naturally that’s where he thrives. He feels pretty good being on the ball, no huddle, tempo-type plays, he’s got a flair for the dramatic. He understands situations, he knows where he needs to break the pocket and extend and he’s doing a great job right now understanding when to check the ball down and let our guys go run after the catch a little bit. I just think it’s been an accumulation of reps over the course of his lifetime.”
Those comments seem pretty positive, and that was just a day ago. There are countless others, but there is no need to provide further evidence to disprove a hot take.

One way to stop these types of clips from becoming less frequent is to perform on the football field. Williams will need to play well to change the national narrative, and he will get his first opportunity to do so on Monday Night Football against the Minnesota Vikings.
