One of the most fascinating storylines of the NFL season is how the Chicago Bears will look with quarterback Caleb Williams in his second season and Ben Johnson taking over as head coach.

All indications from offseason workouts are that Johnson has coached Williams hard, but progress is being made. That's the good news. It appears Williams is appreciative of working under Johnson so far.

Williams spoke at the Fanatics Fest event where he discussed how it has been going with working under Johnson through offseason workouts.

"Ben Johnson is great and it's not just Ben Johnson," Williams said via Ryan Garcia of Empire Sports. "We have a young staff slash old staff and we have a bunch of experience, bunch of new energy provided by the coaches and players. It's been awesome. Ben Johnson, he uses some choice words every day toward me. He's tough and I love him. He's awesome. It's great being around him.

"We hang out in his office and we just have lunch sometimes, things like that. We're building this bond and relationship to be able to last a while. I know Bears fans, it's year after year typically, or every other year, where coaches and quarterbacks specifically are in and out and our goal is to be here for a while."

Williams and Johnson appear to be perfect for each other

In his rookie season, Williams completed about 62% of his passes with 20 touchdowns to six interceptions. It wasn't a great season though as he had 10 fumbles, 68 sacks, and went 5-12 as the starting quarterback.

Johnson had success working with Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff to repair his image as a starting quarterback back in 2022. Goff went from going to Detroit for his career to die to leading one of the best offenses in the NFL.

Williams has some work to do this offseason as he took criticism for not making quick enough decisions in the pocket and taking too many sacks. Johnson has been focused on this with Williams and helping him make off-rhythm throws.

With training camp a month away, Bears fans will soon find out whether Williams and Johnson are a match made in heaven or another mask to a troublesome season in Chicago.
