Bears add another UFL weapon (and Ben Johnson knows him well)

A good fit for the Bears.

The Chicago Bears are making it clear that they respect what the UFL is doing and continue to add to the roster from there.

Linebacker Tony Fields II was the first UFL player the Bears added to give them some depth on defense. ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that Chicago is also signing wide receiver and kickoff returner Kaden Davis.

Davis spent this past UFL season with the Houston Gamblers, where he caught four passes for 32 yards and returned 10 kickoffs for 275 yards in five games. He's played for four NFL teams, including the Detroit Lions in 2024 when Bears head coach Ben Johnson was the offensive coordinator in the Motor City.

The best NFL preseason of Davis' career was actually when he played under Johnson with the Lions in 2024. That year, Davis caught five passes for 96 yards and had a 61-yard touchdown catch before ultimately going to play for the Cleveland Browns.

Johnson brings in another former Lions receiver and returner to the roster, as he also added Kalif Raymond in the offseason. Raymond and Davis know the expectations that come with playing under Johnson; they're familiar with the system, and being special teams aces helps.

Davis is in for a long battle at training camp to make the 53-man roster in Chicago, as the wide receiver position is deep. Where he will have to make the roster is in the return game, but even that is tough with Raymond and rookie third-round pick Zavion Thomas there.

It'll be an interesting training camp storyline to follow: whether Davis' familiarity with Johnson helps give him a chance to surprise fans and make the roster.
