Bears are hosting a pre-draft visit that Braxton Jones would not welcome in

Some friendly competition potentially?

One of the major concerns outside of the defense for the Chicago Bears entering the 2026 NFL Draft is at left tackle.

Starter Ozzy Trapilo is going to miss a good part of the 2026 season, leaving Braxton Jones to be the favorite to take over the left tackle spot. Theo Benedet and Jedrick Wills Jr. are going to be competing with Jones for the job, but Chicago could use an early-round draft pick on an offensive tackle.

That became more of a reality as NFL reporter Ryan Fowler shared that the Bears are hosting Utah offensive tackle Caleb Lomu. Last year. Lomu was a first-team All-Big 12 selection and was given a Pro Football Focus grade of 68.4. He allowed eight pressures, two quarterback hits, and zero sacks on 383 pass blocking snaps for Utah.

This would certainly make things interesting on the offensive line, with the tackle position being a concern for the Bears. Lomu would most likely compete with Jones for the starting job.

Last year, it was kind of a similar situation as Jones had to fight off multiple offensive linemen for the left tackle job before winning it. He struggled in his first four games, then got injured and was replaced by Benedet, who held the job until Trapilo took over late in the season and kept it.

Chicago would most likely still stick with Jones to start, giving Lomu time to develop, before potentially jumping in midseason if things aren't going well. Bears head coach Ben Johnson did praise Jones, though, as Johnson talked about the injury affecting him, but seemed to have confidence that he could start.

The Bears would be more relaxed with Jones, but selecting Lomu in the first round would change the game and really show how they feel about their veteran tackle.
