Ben Johnson calls out one thing Caleb Williams needs to do during games

The Chicago Bears have arrived at training camp and the 2026 season has officially begun.

There are so many different storylines to follow, but everyone is going to be watching what quarterback Caleb Williams does as an encore to his great 2025 campaign. Bears head coach Ben Johnson was asked about Williams, and he sang the praises of his young signal-caller with one thing he's looking for him to do in games.

"I mean, he's got it all," Johnson said via The Score's Chris Emma. "There's really nothing I don't think that he can't do. It's just, the elite arm talent, playmaking ability, escapability, he has his legs that he can hurt a defense with. I mean, there's just so many layers to who he is as a player. I think that word consistency comes up over the course of a 60-minute game or more if we need it to where we're playing high-level quarterback play throughout that game. You see flashes of it. And yet, we're trying to tap into that where we're just consistently delivering the ball where it needs to go, giving it to our guys around us. And then we all know that he has that ability to put on that Superman cape when the time calls for it."

Consistency is the word of Bears training camp for Caleb Williams

The stats looked great for Williams last season. He threw for 3,942 yards and 27 touchdowns to seven interceptions, with four more scores outside of throwing it. His seven comebacks and game-winning drives in the regular season and playoffs were an NFL record.

Those are all great, but Johnson wants Williams to be more consistent in games. A lot of times last year, the Bears' offense would have slow starts in the first half and be forced to turn it up in the second half to come from behind.

This year, the goal is to get out ahead quickly and start dominating teams for four quarters. While having the clutch gene is important, doing the small things in the first three quarters will make life a lot easier for the Bears.

Williams is in his second season in Johnson's offense, which should eliminate the stress the Bears' offense sometimes caused last year. Throughout the 2025 season, Johnson attributed Williams' accuracy issues to learning the complex offense.

Now that Williams is in it, that should not be a problem anymore. This Bears offense should be rolling stronger than ever with their borderline elite quarterback running the show in 2026.
