Bears' biggest remaining offseason tasks should have been done months ago

Yes...they should have, but here we are.

Everyone is gone for the month-plus break from the Chicago Bears facility until training camp is set to get underway.

The Bears accomplished a lot in the offseason, from rebuilding parts of their secondary to adding some firepower to their offense, but they still have a lot they procrastinated on that needs to get done. Bleacher Report writer Brent Sobleski has a list of three things the Bears still need to get done before the 2026 season begins.

  • Find a pass-rusher.
  • Determine starting center.
  • Extend right tackle Darnell Wright's contract.

Bears still have three things that need to get done ASAP

Not getting a pass rusher was such an incredible whiff by the Bears, but there is still time to get the job done. There might be some key free agents like A.J. Epenesa who are off the board, but Joey Bosa and Von Miller are still on the table if they move quickly to get it done.

The center situation can't really be resolved until the end of training camp as the battle between Garrett Bradbury and Logan Jones rolls on. It feels as though Bradbury has the upper hand, given his experience as Jones might be a year away from taking over the job permanently.

Wright's contract extension will eventually happen, but it's only a matter of whether it happens this summer or next offseason. His fifth-year option was already picked up this offseason, so there isn't much concern regarding getting the deal done.

Chicago needs to make sure that between general manager Ryan Poles and head coach Ben Johnson, the two can get these done soon enough. These unresolved issues heading into the 2026 season could be problematic for a team that hopes to win a Super Bowl title this year.
