Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams has had a pretty good past year, topped off by the recent announcement that he is the cover athlete for the new Madden 27 video game.
Williams and some other notable names, like Bears wide receiver Rome Odunze, were at the reveal of the Madden 27 trailer before the game's August release, which featured Williams and actor Vince Vaughn. Before Williams left, he was asked about a fan regarding whether he would be the one to break the Madden curse, and the starting signal-caller only needed two words and a point of a finger to answer that question.
"Damn right," Williams said via ESPN's Courtney Cronin.
Bears fans don't have to worry about Madden curse affecting Caleb Williams
The Madden curse has been a problem for over two decades, as any athlete who is featured on it either has a bad season himself or his team has a bad year. Last season, Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley gained only about 60% of the rushing yards he had in 2024, which many attributed to his being on the Madden 26 cover.
This time around, Williams feels like the guy who could get the job done and break the curse. He's coming off a great sophomore year in the NFL with a franchise record 3,942 yards and 31 total touchdowns to seven interceptions while also leading an NFL record seven comeback and game-winning drives.
What put Williams on the map last year was the spectacular throws he made week after week late in the season to help his team win games. It felt like, despite not being the most accurate, he couldn't miss on throws.

If there is anyone who could break the Madden curse, Williams has the skill set to get it done.
