It still works for us.

The Chicago Bears' boldest move in the offseason saw a reliable veteran in DJ Moore get traded to the Buffalo Bills in exchange for a second-round pick.

It's seen as a risky move by Bears general manager Ryan Poles since it will put more pressure on Rome Odunze and Luther Burden III to be the team's top two receivers and replace Moore, who has proven to be a good talent. Bleacher Report writer Moe Moton revisited the biggest trades of the offseason and gave the Bears a B+ grade, while the Bills got a C.

"Buffalo is looking for an offensive spark, and Chicago traded a player who had faded in its offense for premium draft capital."

Bears still looking good after their trade with the Bills

So far, the Bears are looking good for moving on from Moore the way they did and getting a high draft pick. Burden had a great OTAs, creating massive buzz that he might be in for a breakout season, especially after his head coach, Ben Johnson, praised him. Oduzne might be adjusting to life with his foot at 100%, but he also was seen at minicamp looking good.

The best part of the trade was that the Bears got a second-round pick, giving them more flexibility in the 2026 NFL Draft. They would trade that pick and eventually select center Logan Jones, tight end Sam Roush, and wide receiver Zavion Thomas in the second and third rounds.

Chicago has a clear plan to get younger on offense and build for the future. The Bears appear to already have the franchise quarterback in Caleb Williams, so it's all about adding the talent around him. Over the last three offseasons, the Bears have added D'Andre Swift, Kyle Monanagai, Odunze, Burden, and Colston Loveland as the playmakers who will point the team in the right direction offensively for a long time.

Buffalo is the one taking the bigger risk of the two teams, as they added an aging veteran who will most likely be on the decline. Moore is still a good player, but he went from 1,364 yards in his first season with the Bears in 2023 to 682 yards last year.

Poles is looking great for the move as he flipped Moore for more picks and added talent who can make an immediate impact in the next year or two. The Bears continue to look great after the trade.
