Bears fans might want to turn away at the sight of this offseason report card

This offseason for the Chicago Bears have felt kind of....average.

Sure, the team made some great moves, but there were also missed opportunities. Bleacher Report writer Brent Sobleski was not so kind to the Bears as he gave them a C on their offseason report card.

"The Chicago Bears treaded water this offseason after finding themselves a year ahead of schedule in Ben Johnson's first as head coach. Obviously, the Bears are the reigning NFC North champions and pushed the Los Angeles Rams into overtime during the Divisional Round of the 2025 playoffs. Instead of continuing to stay ahead of the curve, Chicago had to address multiple offseason losses, particularly on defense. Both of the Bears' safeties, Kevin Byard and Jaquan Brisker, left in free agency. The team responded by signing veteran Coby Bryant and drafting Dillon Thieneman in this year's first round. After Byard and Brisker combined to start every game last season. Tremaine Edmunds left. Devin Bush Jr. is signed. On offense, DJ Moore is traded. The Bears reach for speedster Zavion Thomas in the third round. Basically, the Bears switched pieces instead of actually improving in any specific area."

Bears barely get a passing grade on offseason report card

It wasn't necessarily a bad offseason for the Bears. They made some great moves, like adding linebacker Devin Bush and safety Coby Bryant to the defense to help the unit's backend. Even Dillon Thieneman's selection in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft was a massive boost for the team.

What they missed the mark on was not finding a short-term replacement who could match Moore's production on offense. Kalif Raymond is nice, but not at Moore's level, and Thomas is not expected to make a big difference on offense in 2026.

Arguably, the biggest mishap for the Bears was not adding more talent off the edge. They didn't do anything to add edge rushers who could help Montez Sweat in free agency or the draft.

The Bears still have a stacked roster heading into the 2026 season, but not enough to deliver a drastic improvement toward a Super Bowl title unless the young talent takes major steps.
