After the stunning departure of Declan Doyle as offensive coordinator, the Chicago Bears were left scrambling to find his replacement.

Despite some panic from the fan base, Bears head coach Ben Johnson has not rushed through the process. Instead, he took a few days and is now ready to finally interview for the opening.

NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported that the Bears have requested to interview Arizona Cardinals pass game specialist Connor Senger for the open offensive coordinator role. Senger previously interviewed with the Green Bay Packers and Buffalo Bills for their quarterbacks coach roles.

What should Bears fans know about Connor Senger?

This is certainly an interview Bears fans were not expecting for the offensive coordinator role. Most of the reason for that is that Senger is a realatively unknown coach despite starting to get some looks for quarterbacks coach roles.

Senger joined the Bill Bidwell Fellowship for the Cardinals in 2022 to start working toward becoming a coach. He has since been an offensive quality control coach in 2023, an assistant quarterbacks coach in 2024, and a pass game specialist last year.

This would be seen as another young hire for Johnson at offensive coordinator if he went the Senger route, since Doyle was 28 when the Bears hired him as OC. Senger graduated from college back in 2016 and has slowly worked up the coaching ranks from college to the Cardinals.

While Johnson would obviously be the play caller, Senger isn't completely green at being an offensive coordinator. Senger called the plays in the East-West Shrine Bowl, with Sean Mannion as the other play caller, who just landed the offensive coordinator role for the Philadelphia Eagles.

More interviews will be needed, but don't completely discredit Senger as a potential offensive coordinator for the Bears. Johnson has a good eye for talent, so he deserves the benefit of the doubt.
