This Garrett Bradbury trade idea can finally be put to rest (for now)

We can move on.

Ever since the Chicago Bears made the bold trade for center Garrett Bradbury earlier in the offseason, it feels like now the conversation is whether the team from the Windy City will do the same thing to him after just half a year on the roster.

Those questions quickly arose when the Bears selected Iowa center Logan Jones in the second round of the 2026 NFL Draft, leaving Bradbury's future in question. Despite Bears head coach Ben Johnson praising Bradbury during OTAs, it didn't stop people from connecting him to one team for a possible trade: the Baltimore Ravens.

During the offseason, the Ravens lost their star center, Tyler Linderbaum, after signing with the Las Vegas Raiders in free agency, leaving an opening at center. Originally, many Ravens reporters wanted the team to trade for Bradbury, but Baltimore decided to sign former Cleveland Browns starting center Ethan Pocic to a one-year deal to be the new starter.

Ravens might be out on Garrett Bradbury trade potential in 2026

While it doesn't completely close the door on Bradbury being in Baltimore, the possibilities of it happening is not as high. Pocic tore his ACL last season with the Browns and seems to be on track to start in training camp, but it is not for certain.

The Bears are better off not going after the trade idea and sticking to what they got. Bradbury may not be the best starter out there, but he is reliable and a good one-year rental to have before Jones takes over the job next season.

Last season, Pro Football Focus gave Bradbury a 60.1 grade, ranking him 30th out of 40 centers in the NFL. His run-blocking grade was not great, though, with a grade of 56.2, ranking 35th.

That might be enough to scare Bears fans into rolling with Bradbury, but putting a rookie in with Johnson's complex offense doesn't seem like the right move either. Bradbury has chemistry with some of the offensive linemen already, having been a former teammate of Joe Thuney in college, so that will be a plus.

Jones has all the makings to be a great center in the NFL, but Bradbury appears to be the right choice for the time being. If some NFL centers get hurt throughout the season, though, the Bears might still be tempted to trade Bradbury away, so don't completely count it out yet.
