The position battles at the Chicago Bears training camp are starting to heat up, with various competitors involved.
Arguably the most important one for the second year in a row is at left tackle. Braxton Jones is expected to be the favorite to win the job, but others like Jedrick Wills Jr. and Theo Benedet could be in the running to start.
On Day 3 of training camp, though, a new plot twist was introduced to the story. How about Kiran Amegadjie getting some snaps? The Athletic's Bears senior writer Kevin Fishbain reported that Amegadjie opened training camp drills as the starting left tackle and Jones was the backup.

Braxton Jones is not a lock to win Bears' left tackle job now
It was always going to be a wide-open competition since Ozzy Trapilo is expected to miss a portion of the 2026 NFL season. Adding Amegadjie to the picture certainly changes everything for the Bears moving forward.
Amegadjie was a third-round pick of the Bears after being seen as a potential starter of the future starteby. That dream has not become a reality, as he was never able to take the job and run with it.
Jones hasn't done much either to exactly excite the Bears fan base that he can earn his job back. Last year, he struggled in the first four games of the season before Benedet replaced him and Jones recovered from an injury. Pro Football Focus gave Jones a 55.5 overall grade for the season, adding a pass-blocking grade of 62.7 and a run-blocking grade of 47.2.
This will certainly add some excitement to the left tackle position, as it is starting to feel a lot like it did at training camp last year. They went through at least three different left tackles in camp trying to find the right one before settling on Jones to win the job. Bears head coach Ben Johnson said last season that they would evaluate the left tackle position every week, and it feels like they are trending in that direction.

There is plenty of time for Jones to still win the job, and the reality is that he should still be in the driver's seat, but he's going to have to work for it. Amegadjie better take advantage of every snap he gets and prove that he deserves another chance to play.
