When it comes to trade rumors involving the Chicago Bears, it's usually been around either tight end Cole Kmet, running back D'Andre Swift, or wide receiver DJ Moore, but a new name has popped up out of nowhere.

Arizona Sports 98.7 FM radio host John Gambadoro reported that he is hearing that the Arizona Cardinals have some interest in Bears backup quarterback Tyson Bagent. Chicago has had Bagent as the backup for the last three seasons, but did sign a contract extension with the Bears last season for two years and $10 million.

The Cardinals might be looking to add a quarterback after a new coaching staff and rumors that they are moving on from their starter, Kyler Murray. There's been no word on whether Bagent would compete for a starting job in Arizona.

Bears might be able to get trade compensation for Tyson Bagent

Bagent was originally an undrafted free agent who won the backup job back in 2023 and ended up going 2-2 as the starting quarterback in his rookie year. That season, he completed 65.7% of his passes for 859 yards and three touchdowns to six interceptions, adding 109 rushing yards and two touchdowns in five games played.

Since that season, Bagent has been Caleb Williams' main backup and only appeared in seven games with no starts. He's completed five of six passes for 58 yards in the last two years.

The interesting part will be what kind of trade compensation they could get from Bagent, as he has been a fan favorite in Chicago and gotten praise from his coaching staff. He's proven to be a reliable backup and could potentially get a shot at starting someday.

Chicago would most likely want a third- or fourth-round pick for Bagent if a team wanted him. The Cardinals might be desperate enough to get that done, maybe with another late Day 3 pick to add to it.

Good backup quarterbacks are hard to come by, but the Bears would be smart to entertain a trade at least and see what they could get from Bagent. As much as Chicago loves Bagent, a good draft pick would be hard to pass up for him.
