Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson is an offensive genius who is always ahead of the curve compared to most offenses in the NFL.
OTAs were a good example of the Bears showing off all kinds of talent they have on offense, with Zavion Thomas showing off his speed and Caleb Williams continuing to show off his incredible arm talent. There was a moment at Bears OTAs that shows that the team is practicing for something that could be coming up in 2026.
The Bears shared a video on their social media page that has the offensive line doing more than going through their typical blocking workouts. For 30 seconds, Bears fans can see the offensive linemen running out to practice, catching the football as if they were a receiver or tight end.
Could the Bears be involving the offensive line more for pass catching situations?
Johnson has not been afraid to use his offensive linemen in passing situations throughout the last few years as a head coach and offensive play-caller. He used his linemen with the Detroit Lions when he was the offensive coordinator (one of those moments against the Dallas Cowboys is one that still stings Lions fans and makes Bears fans happy).
Even last year, Johnson was not afraid to use his quarterback, Caleb Williams, as a pass catcher. In their Week 9 win over the Cincinnati Bengals, Williams caught a touchdown pass at the goal line.
It appears as though the offensive line might be getting involved in trick plays in the 2026 season, which will be just fine for Bears fans. Johnson is smart with figuring out which linemen have the best hands and throwing them into the lineup to catch.
