It takes a lot for a rookie to impress Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams, but it appears that is already happening.
One of the stars of OTAs for the Bears has been rookie third-round pick wide receiver Zavion Thomas as he has already shown off his speed. Williams told the media how impressed he has been with Thomas so far.
“When he’s out there making plays, when he’s got the ball in his hands, when he’s doing the right thing, he’s pretty special," Williams said.
Zavion Thomas has the attention of Caleb Williams
Thomas was once seen as a reach from Bears fans after being projected as a Day 3 selection in the draft. He has already shown that he was worthy of that pick through the multiple highlights plays he has made in OTAs.
One of those was a deep pass catch from Williams that saw him get behind the Bears defender. The other play was a screen pass catch from Tyson Bagent that had Thomas put on the burners.
The Bears have something special in Thomas, as he has a chance to be a real weapon in this offense. Bears head coach Ben Johnson has shown his hand already with Thomas being used as a running back, receiver, and returner on special teams.
There are so many ways Thomas can be used on this team, but it is clear that he is going to have the ball in his hands. Bears general manager Ryan Poles said that Thomas would be more of a special teams player, but with his OTAs, he might be making it hard for the Bears not to play him more.

Watch for Thomas to be an impact player for the Bears early in his career even if he is just a returner on special teams. Johnson will find ways to play his rookie.
