Nahshon Wright is officially gone from the Chicago Bears, as he will sign with the New York Jets.

It didn't take long for Bears general manager Ryan Poles to find his replacement on the roster. ESPN NFL reporter Jeremy Fowler reported the Bears have signed defensive back Cam Lewis to a two-year deal.

Lewis was an undrafted free agent to the Buffalo Bills back in 2020, where he has spent the last six years. In 76 games, he has racked up 166 tackles, 11 pass deflections, five tackles for loss, three forced fumbles, and one interception.

Bears replace Nahshon Wright with Cam Lewis in the secondary

Lewis has only started 14 games with the Bills in his six-year career, but he can help out with his experience on the field. He has played well and is considered to be an underrated coverage player.

The good part about Lewis is that he can play safety and cornerback, showing off the versatility the Bears saw last season with C.J. Gardner-Johnson. After the injuries the Bears went through at cornerback, with Jaylon Johnson and Kyler Gordon, depth is key.

Lewis's most important asset, though, is that he plays special teams well. Adding him with Josh Blackwell on kickoff coverage would be an added benefit for the Bears.

Some people were surprised about how cheap Wright came in free agency, but credit to the Bears for acting quickly and getting a deal done with Lewis. This might not be one of those moves that get talked about much, but it is an underrated move for the Bears, as they get a solid depth player in the secondary.

Bills fans seem to vouch that Lewis is solid, so the Bears might have gotten themselves a solid player.
