Nahshon Wright found his new home (but Bears fans will be stunned by his contract)

How much did he get?

The Chicago Bears fan base knew from the beginning of the offseason that bringing back cornerback Nahshon Wright was going to be too difficult to do.

Wright is coming off his first Pro Bowl season, as he had a league-leading 10 turnovers on the season with five interceptions, three fumble recoveries, and two forced fumbles. Many saw that as a man who was going to be a big payday, and the Bears would be out of the running to get him.

Well, Wright ended up signing elsewhere as he is joining the New York Jets. His contract with the Jets, though, is a bit telling: he got just a one-year, $5.5 million deal, according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz.

The final details of the contract are a surprise. Many thought Wright was about to get over $10 million per year on his new deal with the kind of season he had. He didn't come close to it.

If fans looked at the numbers closely, while he proved to be a ball hawk, Wright has some things he needs to work on to be considered an elite cornerback. He allowed a 61.2% completion percentage for 813 yards and six touchdowns. Those are not exactly the most encouraging numbers for teams to like in him.

A lot of the problems stemmed from his inconsistency. He would create turnovers at a high level, which is great, but he would get burned time and time again in coverage, allowing big pass plays.

It's unclear whether the Bears will regret not bringing him back for the 2026 season at that price, but they are solid at cornerback at the moment. They have Jaylon Johnson, Kyler Gordon, and Tyrique Stevenson they can lean on.

Wright had quite the impact in just one year in Chicago, but now he gets his shot to start in New York.
