As the months roll on, it is becoming clearer and clearer to everyone that the Chicago Bears could very much be on their way to moving on from one of their former draft picks.

The Bears' running back position is stacked with talent, which could lead to a veteran or two losing their jobs. Bleacher Report writer Alex Kay named Bears running back Roschon Johnson as one of his five players most likely to be a cap casualty.

"Although the Bears didn't bolster the backfield with any draft picks or notable free agents, they did grab veteran Salvon Ahmed and undrafted rookie Coleman Bennett to contest for roles during training camp. It's possible one of these unheralded options could impress the coaching staff and usurp Johnson as Chicago's RB3."

Roschon Johnson's name keeps getting brought up as a cut candidate

It's easy to see how hope is slowly fading among Bears fans for Johnson, despite a promising start to his career. He only had two carries and didn't have a single reception last season, as 2025 seventh-round pick Kyle Monangai took his backup job and ran with it.

Now it feels like Johnson might not even be able to hold on to his third-string job with Ahmed and Bennett recently brought in. Ahmed has NFL experience that could challenge Johnson, but even Bennett, an undrafted rookie, is a popular name among the undrafted rookies on the Bears that could legitimately make the 53-man roster.

Kay had suggested that Johnson get a fresh start elsewhere, such as with the Carolina Panthers, as a backup. It's clear that Johnson is not going to get the carries and snaps in Bears head coach Ben Johnson's offense, so he might as well find a new home and move on from Chicago.

Roschon Johnson is still a good running back in this league and can be used as a power back in any NFL roster. It's just a matter of finding him a new home, as it feels as though his RB3 job in Chicago is going to be taken away from him one way or another.
