The Chicago Bears have been focused on working out and finding new talent in their secondary before OTAs get underway.
Last week, 2025 draft pick Zah Frazier was waived by the team after not appearing in any games a year ago due to personal reasons. Now, the Bears need to fill that void with a new defensive back, and it appears they might have found someone to help on that side of the ball.
NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported that the Bears have signed former Green Bay Packers and New York Giants defensive back Anthony Johnson Jr. Johnson was a former seventh-round pick of the Packers back in 2023 and has played the last two seasons with the Giants, racking up 29 tackles, four pass deflections, and one interception in 21 career games.
Bears adding depth in secondary with Anthony Johnson Jr.
The Bears worked out several defensive backs throughout the week, and while Johnson is not a cornerback, it appears he could be playing the position. He might also be able to help with safety depth after losing several in free agency, including Kevin Byard, Jaquan Brisker, and Jonathan Owens.
It's also just nice that the Bears want to stick it to the Packers a bit and see if they can do what Green Bay couldn't. Johnson has a legit shot of improving while being in Chicago.
The Bears could be looking at Johnson as more than just a depth piece, as he will have to make an impact on special teams. Combining him with special teams ace Josh Blackwell would help Chicago out tremendously with that unit.

This might not be the end of the moves of bringing in secondary players for the Bears, as they will try to find the right pieces to put into place.
