Bears urged to trade for $76.4 million defender (but will the price be right?)

How expensive would he be?

Every Chicago Bears fan can't stop talking about the fact that the team did not add an edge rusher in the NFL Draft or during the free agency period.

There were chances to add guys like Maxx Crosby or Trey Hendrickson, but the Bears did not get it done. Bleacher Report writer Kristopher Knox suggested the Bears should be on the phone with the Arizona Cardinals to trade for edge rusher Josh Sweat.

"The Chicago Bears won the NFC North this past season despite having a defense that produced just 35 sacks as a unit. They have done little to upgrade their pass rush this offseason, though not due to a lack of effort. The Athletic's Dan Wiederer reported in April that the Bears had interest in Las Vegas Raiders star Maxx Crosby, albeit not at the same price point as the Baltimore Ravens.

We know that the Ravens ultimately voided the trade they had in place with Las Vegas and pivoted to Trey Hendrickson in free agency. We also know that the Bears still need a high-end complement to Montez Sweat on the edge. Could Chicago make another run at Crosby before the regular season? Sure, but if Josh Sweat becomes available, he might be a more-enticing budget alternative."

Will the Bears even attempt to get Josh Sweat?

Sweat is coming off the best season of his career as he racked up 12 sacks for the Cardinals last season. Things have not gone well in his first season there as Arizona fired its head coach and had a top-five pick, as the recent reports are that Sweat is not happy there.

Chicago has a clear need for an edge rusher after the defense only had 33 sacks last year; only six teams had fewer than them. Montez Sweat needs a more reliable partner in crime at edge rusher, and Josh Sweat could be that guy.

The problem could be that Josh Sweat might be too expensive to pay for. Arizona might try to get a first or second-round pick for the former Pro Bowler. Chicago might not be willing to pay that kind of price for him.

The Bears would prefer for Austin Booker to finally break out in his third NFL season, but Josh Sweat is a great option for Chicago if they want to add an elite edge rusher.
