Cole Kmet is over Bears fans' fascination with one critical play he made in 2025

The Chicago Bears had one of the most fun seasons in recent history in 2025 after their stellar playoff run. Now, one of the biggest challenges of 2026 will be getting over that run and focusing on the new team.

Cole Kmet touched on that idea during his media availability at the Bears' offseason program. Kmet was involved in the unbelievable play that sent the Bears into overtime before their playoff loss to the Rams. He noted that the play was spectacular and fans still bring it up to him. However, he has to remind the fans that the outcome was not what they wanted.

"A lot. I have to remind people that we lost the f'n game."

The Chicago Bears must turn the page to 2026

This is funny because Bears fans obviously want to win, but the play, the moment, and the thought of what could happen are so thrilling that it will still go down as one of the better moments in team history. They are never in that position in the playoffs, and even the slightest hope of winning has made fans' day.

However, Kmet is correct about the sentiment. Holding on to a fun season that ended in an almost or a could-have-been is not going to help the team this year. They need to find a way to turn the page.

This was one of the issues the Bears had with Matt Nagy back in 2018. They had a sensational playoff run and a shocking exit, but hope was high all offseason. However, the team was still stuck on the previous year and thought they could waltz in and be just as good. They learned that the next year is a blank slate and their status is not going to carry them.

Many agree that Ben Johnson is going to be better than Matt Nagy in Chicago, but there are still a lot of similarities between the two through one season. The sustained success, the ability to turn the page, and to make another run next season are going to be what separate him from the teams and coaches he has had in the past.

It is good that Kmet understands this memo and that he is preaching not to get hung up on what happened last year.
