Cole Kmet just proved Bears fans' offseason worry wrong with one play

Can we put this narrative to bed now?

Before the season started, there were some Chicago Bears fans who questioned the team's move to select tight end Colston Loveland in the first round of the 2025 NFL draft. Furthermore, a common worry became whether or not this meant the end for Cole Kmet.

Anyone who watched a Ben Johnson offense, though, would tell you not to worry about Kmet. He's a talented player whom the Bears had already rewarded with an extension. The idea that Johnson couldn't use Kmet and Loveland was silly.

And, in the second quarter of the Bears' Week 3 showdown with the Dallas Cowboys, a whole lot of these questions finally lost some steam. Loveland went out with a hip injury and was questionable to return for the game. Just minutes later, Caleb Williams hit Kmet on a 10-yard touchdown.

It took a Colston Loveland injury for Bears fans to stop worrying about Cole Kmet

It is unfortunate that it had to come to this point, but for fans to stop worrying about Kmet, it actually took Loveland to get banged up. Now, the injury didn't look all that serious at first, thankfully. We'll continue to monitor the situation there.

But, the Kmet touchdown looked every bit of what the veteran tight end has been doing in Chicago for years. It's almost as if the Loveland pick made fans completely forget about how talented Kmet is. Just because Chicago drafted a talented tight end doesn't mean they're going to throw Kmet to the wolves.

A lot of successful teams use 12 personnel (two tight ends) and Johnson will absolutely do so. But, the fact that Loveland got hurt in this one and it was immediately followed up with Kmet scoring a touchdown should make fans quite thankful the Bears didn't try and move the veteran this past offseason.

It should also remind fans just how good Kmet is, and why he still deserves a role in this offense no matter what the end result is from this Loveland injury.

Hopefully, we can put the whole Kmet narrative to bed. Chicago has two solid tight ends, and that's a positive.
