Cole Kmet's legacy grows after latest accomplishment after the Bears' Week 6 win
Cole Kmet pulled double duty during the Chicago Bears' victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars as not only did he have a two-touchdown performance, he was forced into being the team's long snapper after an injury to Scott Daly.
Sunday's effort against the Jaguars is one that many Bears' fans will remember for years to come and on Wednesday, Kmet was nationally recognized.
That's right.
Cole Kmet was the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week for Week 6.
Credit to the NFL for leaning into the fun that is Kmet serving as the emergency long snapper for the Bears in Week 6.
Kmet is now the second Bears player to take home the award this season. Rookie punter Tory Taylor was the Week 4 NFC Special Teams Player of the Week.
For all the praise that Kmet deserves for stepping in as the team's long snapper on Sunday, the goal is for that never to happen again this season. Along those lines, on Tuesday, the Bears signed long snapper Jake McQuaid to their practice squad.
McQuaide was most recently with the Detroit Lions, appearing in nine games last season as the Lions' long snapper. McQuaide has carved a nice career for himself as a long snapper, active in the league since 2011, including two Pro Bowl seasons with the Los Angeles Rams in 2016 and 2017.
There is a chance that McQuaide could be in play as the Bears' long snapper for their Week 8 game against the Washington Commanders. Even though Daly was immediately ruled out after suffering his knee injury against the Jaguars, he is believed to be week-to-week and may be ready after the bye week. Longtime Bears' long snapper Patrick Scales remains on IR after undergoing a back procedure prior to the start of the season.
