If Chicago Bears fans listen closely, they might hear millions of fans laughing themselves to death after the news about what happened to one of their former head coaches.
Sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter that the Dallas Cowboys have fired defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus after just one season in the role. Eberflus led one of the worst defenses in the NFL as they were ranked 30th in total defense, allowing 377 yards per game, and were the worst scoring defense in the NFL, as the only team to allow over 30 points per game, with 30.1.
This is about 14 months after Eberflus was fired as the head coach of the Chicago Bears following his disastrous three-year run. He went 14-32 as the head coach for the Bears.
Cowboys needed one year to admit their massive mistake with Eberflus
Most Bears fans could have seen this coming, as it was a disaster for Eberflus in Dallas from the beginning. It didn't help that his best defensive player, Micah Parsons, was traded to the Green Bay Packers, and their top cornerback, Trevon Diggs, struggled to stay healthy and was eventually cut.
Chicago went through the same struggles with Eberflus as he was supposed to be the guy who would bring back the tough-nosed defenses of the past in the Windy City. Instead, the defenses in Chicago under Eberflus were ranked 29th, 12th, and 27th overall in total defense in his three years, never finishing in the top 10.
For someone who is supposed to be a defensive genius from his days with the Indianapolis Colts as their defensive coordinator, he hasn't done much good with any defense since. Both the Bears and Cowboys were in much worse positions because of it.

It's going to be a long road for Eberflus to find a coaching job now, as his days as a head coach are over, and he will have to work his way back up to defensive coordinator. This was a fall from grace that Bears fans had first row tickets to the moment he took the head coach job in 2022.
