This season could end up being the last for multiple Chicago Bears players, including running back D'Andre Swift.
Last year was Swift's best season as an NFL player, rushing for a career-high 1,087 yards and nine touchdowns. It was the second time in the last three seasons that he has rushed for over 1,000 yards, proving that he can be a starter in the league.
The problem is that he is in the final year of his contract with the Bears, which leaves the franchise with an interesting decision. Swift very much has destiny in his hands as he heads into what could be the last year in the Windy City.
D'Andre Swift could be participating in his last training camp with the Bears
Last year was indication enough that Swift hasn't nearly come close to losing a step after a bad 2024 season. During that first year with the Bears, he averaged a career-low 3.8 yards per carry, but followed it up with 4.9 yards per carry in 2025.
Chicago finally has the right combo in the backfield to spark the third-best rushing attack in the NFL last season between Swift and 2025 seventh-round pick Kyle Monangai. Swift brought the speed, while Monangai brought the power, making them a great duo, and they have been ranked among the top five running back duos in the league. The two had a great 2025 season, combining for over 1,700 yards and 14 touchdowns, proving they are one of the best in the NFL when they work together.
Even with that, the Bears face a big decision regarding Swift's future in Chicago. The Bears can either re-sign Swift to another contract or move on from the 27-year-old back and let him test free agency.
There is a strong belief that Bears head coach Ben Johnson might want to add another young running back to be the future one-two punch with Monangai. This is despite the fact that Johnson and Swift have known each other for a while, dating back to their days together with the Detroit Lions.

Swift is playing at a high level and should be respected more by the team and the fan base. The hope is that he can play well in 2026 and continue his career in Chicago; otherwise, he will be looking for a new team next offseason.
