The Chicago Bears have gone winless since Thomas Brown took over as the interim head coach, all but ending Brown's candidacy to get the permanent job this offseason.
To be fair, it would have been unrealistic to expect Brown to enter the mix as the team's head coach and immediately turn things around. Despite the offense showing signs of life during Brown's run as the interim offensive coordinator prior to his promotion, the offense has reverted back to the struggles they had at the start of their current eight-game losing streak.
During his morning radio hit for 670 The Score, Bears wide receiver DJ Moore stated what he is looking for in the team's next head coach.
It's no secret that Detroit Lions' offensive coordinator Ben Johnson is near the top of the candidate list when it comes to who will be the next head coach of the Bears. The work that Johnson has done with Lions' quarterback Jared Goff should have the Bears salivating at the idea of him getting his hands on Caleb Williams. Beyond an offensive-minded head coach, the Bears need a coach who can get the most out of Williams' development.
In addition to Johnson, Buffalo Bills' offensive coordinator Joe Brady is also on the rise in terms of potential head coach candidates. Brady has the Bills' offense rolling behind likely MVP quarterback Josh Allen. The pushback to Brady has been where does his offense stop, and Allen's talent begin. That doesn't mean that the Bears should immediately cast Brady to the side but they need to do their vetting with Brady and his offense. However, it's beginning to look like vetting isn't a strong trait of Ryan Poles.
Brady and Johnson do not have head coach experience, so the Bears will also need to be diligent in their research of each candidate's ability to lead a room. Leading the locker room has already been a phrase that fans have rolled their eyes at but it seems to be something that the players want to see as well from their next head coach.
